Rexoria: Queen of Light

Rexoria's lead singer Frida Ohlin walks onto the big stage with her group's first full length album and brings a joyous new twist to melodic metal --- a female folk voice with strong phrasing. Queen of Light's first song track "Stranded" is a superb introduction to her unique style. The title track "Queen of Light" and "Voice of Heaven" are ample evidence of a versatile singer mixing folky metal musings with an eager band engaging her vocal leadership without drowning it out.

In edgy offerings "Way to Die", "The Saviour" and "Hurricane" the hard rocker kicks in with a vengeance through Helloween and Europe-tinged numbers pushing all the right buttons and screaming in all the right places. "Song by the Angels" is a ballad of provocative power in that it has the zeal of a gifted frontwoman while backed with a rocking band capable of capturing a melody.

"My Spirit Will Run Free" a folky-rock song that is both breezy and bluesy at the same time. The band really showcases its talents the most in this track that belongs on the radio. The album closes with "You'll be Alright" a blended masterpiece of Doro influenced shadings as if channeled through Donna Summer (I know. You have to listen to it for yourself.) and pushed forward with galloping guitar power and making this by far the most distinctive song in the album.

Unlike many new bands that require three or four albums to find their identity, Rexoria is comfortable in its location on the first. A very impressive debut for a band only scratching the creative surface and still transporting our senses to a finer frontier.
