Kinlin: The Last Stand

Kinlin is an American heavy rock band hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. They released their first self-titled album in 2003 followed by End of Dissent in 2009. Their latest effort is titled The Last Stand and has been another unexpected surprise considering this is a band I had never heard before. These guys are certainly veterans of the hard rock genre and include W.A.S.P. and Yngwie Malmsteen alumni Patrick Johansson (drums), Dewayne Hart (guitar and vocals), Tom Lynch (guitars) and Chris Eversoul (bass).

The music of The Last Stand is a prime example of modern day heavy rock. Powerful lead vocals, solid riffs, fiery drumming with excellent fills and fine lead guitar work. While the guitar solos are frequent this isn't showy stuff. The musicianship is very good but never to the detriment of the individual songs. The disc begins with a couple of heavy rockers; "Wake Up" and the title track. I dare you not to tap your feet to the opening track. The slower paced ballad "Forever And A Day" is a fabulous track featuring expressive lead guitar and strong vocals. "Unthinkable" is a real speed fest with raging riffs and drums before the dynamic "Lost Memories" traverses light and heavy moods demonstrating the band is anything but one dimensional.

Every now and again it's nice to hear a pure hard rock record and that's exactly what Kinlin brings to the table. Hard rock music fans should definitely take note.
