Glass Mind : Dodecaedro

Glass Mind is a Mexican progressive metal band having formed in 2005 at a very young age. They released their debut album Haunting Regrets in 2008 and rereleased it in 2011. In 2014 and 2015 the band released three singles; "Inside The Whale", "Detritus" and "Babel" which are all included on the band's new release titled Dodecaedro.

In the band are Benjamin Berthier (guitar), Pablo Berthier (guitar), Edgar Garduno (drums) and Michel Villamor (bass).

The band plays complex, instrumental progressive metal with colourings of jazz, fusion and djent. These guys are as tight as they come and the instrumental prowess they possess is really quite an achievement, especially when you consider this is only their second album. Complex change ups and chord progressions are common place. Interspersed among the tracks are four shorter tunes that has the band vying for a different sound, more ethereal and trippy with the use of piano effects, electronics and gentler guitar although there is still a fair amount of discord in places. The last shorter piece titled "Seco" includes more trippy effects and what sounds like flute and sax before heavier drums takes the music into more intense realms. This piece would have been really interesting had they made it a little longer as I wanted to hear where the music would go next. The album's longest track is "Inside The Whale" where a cool fuzzed out groove and chugging technical guitar riffs give the song plenty of heft. Add some soaring guitar and an element of catchiness and you have the makings of a great track. The album ends with the title track beginning with a moody intro as complex drum fills and heavy bass develop into dense sound layers where the riffs reign supreme. The lead guitar work has hints of fusion further adding to the band's considerable arsenal of sounds.

Fusion, technical progressive metal, djent, trippy discord and a whole lot of other sounds makes Glass Mind a band to watch out for in the months and years to come. Very impressive to say the least.
