Made to Last is the new 5 song EP from legendary blues/rock/jazz guitarist Robben Ford, recorded and produced by Mark Hornsby at Sweetwater Studios. For the majority of the album, his band consists of bassist Brian Allen, drummer Wes Little, tenor saxophonist Jeff Coffin, and rhythm guitarist Casey Wasner, but on the final track "The Champion", it's the trio of Ford, bassist Dave Martin, and Spock's Beard drummer Nick D'Virgilio.
Musically speaking, Made to Last is basically all about the blues, with some touches of jazz and funk thrown in for good measure. "Good Times" actually rocks quite a bit too, with Ford's energetic guitar solos flying about over some solid grooves and his always exceptional vocals. Willie Dixon's "Crazy For My Baby" is given royal treatment, the rhythms addicting and the guitar work biting, while the fat bass lines and sultry sax provide a great foil to some meaty guitar riffs on the swampy "Somebody's Fool". Ford let's it all out on the gutsy slow blues of "Automobile Blues", a must hear for any ZZ Top or Joe Bonamassa fan, complete with some scorching guitar & sax solos, with the uptempo "The Champion" closing out the show in raucous power trio fashion, almost like the second coming of Cream, Ford unleashing a torrent of white hot guitar firepower over some thunderous grooves.
He's been thrilling fans since the early 1970's, but guitar legend Robben Ford shows no signs of slowing down one bit. Though only about 20-minutes worth of music, Made to Last is sure to hold Ford's fans over till his next full length release. Thrilling stuff!
