Necropanther: Eyes of Blue Light
I'm pretty sure it's time I read Dune. I know the basic premise and I've even read some of the sequels but never the now-classic original. I've had plenty of reminders to read it over the years, but none of them were as good as this album. I've never listened to Necropanther until now, but they've made a solid impression with this album. Not only is the songwriting solid, but the band just sounds great. That's no surprise since it was recorded by Felipe Patino (Rise Against, NOFX) and mixed and mastered in Gothenburg, Sweden by Fredrik Nordström (Dimmu Borgir, At the Gates, Arch Enemy, and others). Every track conveys a different part of the Dune saga in ways that are consistently heavy, epic, and cool. Some concept albums lay things on a little too thick, but Necropanther just sticks with the power and precision of Old School Death Metal. This is the Dune album you didn't know you needed. It's also one of the best albums of it's kind. Check out "Good as Dead," "Shai-Hulud," and "Fedaykin." I sure hope these guys play this whole thing on tour.
