Tracy, Michael: Still Got Soul

Michael Tracy hails from North Carolina and has four albums to his credit, his latest titled Still Got Soul, the follow up to his 2016 release Love And Worries. Tracy sings and plays all the instruments himself except for drums supplied by Brock Whitfield. The music never strays from the AOR/melodic pop rock mold and for the most part isn’t very heavy. I would have liked to hear a little more grit in some of these tunes but it is an enjoyable enough listen although some may find this a tad pedestrian.

The first track “Laughter� is a solid rocker with good lead vocals and a catchy chorus. I do like Tracy’s vocals throughout the disc as they are quite warm and melodic and he never holds the notes for too long, the fault of many singers. “Call Me Wild� is another strong track, reminding me a bit of Rick Springfield, especially the guitar riff. “No More Waiting� is a nice enough ballad while the smooth “Savannah Nights� has a bit of that West coast sound.

My one issue is the homogenized sound, as the songs are all quite similar in structure and arrangement. That said, Tracy has a solid voice and is a good musician so hopefully he will start to garner some attention from the American rock crowd. Just don’t expect anything revolutionary.
