Veteran US heavy rock/stoner act Mos Generator return with their latest platter of fat riffs & thumping grooves, titled Shadowlands, set to be released in late May on Listenable Records. With a host of studio albums, live and split releases to their credit as well as a healthy dose of touring, Mos Generator have been pretty prolific in their 18 year history, and the trio of Tony Reed (guitar, vocals, keyboards),
Sean Booth (bass), and Jon Garrett (drums) have put together one of the most refined and accessible albums of their career here with Shadowlands. While the doom & stoner vibe of their earlier albums still permeate these eight tracks, Shadowlands is much more of a classic '70s styled hard rock record, tunes such as "The Destroyer", "Drowning in Your Loving Cup", and the title cut bristle with touches of Thin Lizzy and UFO just as much as more recent influences like Corrosion of Conformity and Crowbar. The wonderful colors and textures of "Stolen Ages" even brings to mind vintage Wishbone Ash with its intricate and melodic guitar lines, while the thick riffing and rumbling grooves of "Gamma Hydra" and "Woman Song" owe as much to Grand Funk Railroad as they do to Black Sabbath.
Rather than rest on their laurels, Mos Generator have created a platter of music here that draws upon some different influences, yet comes across just as hard hitting as any of their previous efforts. For a hard rocking good time, dial up this winner...you won't be disappointed.
