Lea, Jim: Lost In Space

Now this has been a long time coming. In fact more than ten years have we waited, but Jim Lea is back, the man behind all of Slade’s hits having been absent from the studio since 2007’s ‘Therapy’. Hence it’s no exaggeration to suggest that Lost In Space is something of an out of this world event!

The title track is classic Pop, an offbeat melody punctuated by strings, stinging guitar lines and sackfuls of hook laden melodies. ‘What In The World’ takes us back to Slade’s 80s boom-clang radio wall of sound before ‘Megadrive’ combines syrupy vocals to a monster riff that proves the potency of what’s on offer. ‘Pure Power’ pretends to be dumb but it’s actually clever as hell - and taking custody of an 80s era ZZ Top guitar solo - while ‘Going Back To Birmingham’ actually takes us right back to Hendrix. Leaving ‘Through The Fire’ to be shit kicking rock n roll of the highest order, which also reveals exactly where Hanoi Rocks and KISS stole their grooves.

Welcome back Jim, you’ve been lost in space for far too long!
