Drudkh: They Often See Dreams About the Spring

Ukrainian black metal giants Drudkh are back with their eleventh album. Most listeners know them as a band that never tours, does not give interviews, and eschews any talk of politics, particularly extreme politics, in their lyrics. With each new release, the band rises a little higher, especially since they’ve been signed to Season of Mist. Even though Drudkh would rather avoid the spotlight, their relationship with Season of Mist seems to be working pretty well. This album, I suspect, has already done well and will continue to attract new listeners to the bleak soundscapes the band creates.

As for the music on this album, its consistent with the harsh black metal style Drudkh has been developing lately. The tracks here are long but lean. Each of them quickly builds up a strong wall of black metal sound that is sometimes breached either by the rough progressions, the harsh vocals, or the blending of every other sound. Drudkh is clearly a black metal band at the top of their game and this album shows them at their bleakest.
