Vocalist Ronnie Romero is quickly becoming one of the hardest working and in-demand singers in metal, working with Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, The Ferrymen, CoreLeoni, and Lords of Black all just within the last couple of years. Icon of the New Days is the second Frontier Records release from Lords of Black, and sees Romero paired up with Tony Hernando (guitars, bass, keyboards), Andy C (drums, keyboards), and Dani Criado (bass).
With Romero's 'Ronnie James Dio-meets-Jorn Lande' styled pipes leading the charge, the band tear through a dozen lethal melodic metal tunes, each one catchy but containing plenty of thump and crunch. "World Gone Mad" and "Not in a Place Like This" are easy recommendations, while the galloping "When a Hero Takes a Fall" and the epic sounding "Forevermore" and "King's Reborn" take the band into power & progressive metal territory. In fact, those that like the more 'progressive' side of Lords of Black will love the lengthy, somewhat doom laden "All I Have Left", another great vehicle for soaring Romero vocals and loads of quality guitar work. In fact, 'quality' basically sums up Icon of the New Days, another very solid release from Lords of Black, and another winner for the prolific Frontiers Records.
