Jeff Beck...perhaps the most original and respected electric guitarist in the history of rock 'n' roll, is given a spectacular career retrospective in this wonderful documentary from Eagle Rock, titled Still On the Run-The Jeff Beck Story. Taking the viewer every step of the way, all the way back with The Yardbirds, to the Jeff Beck Group, the brief run with Beck Bogert & Appice, his '70s jazz-rock albums, the hiatus in the '80s to spend time building cars, and his career renaissance with Guitar Shop, all the way to more recent releases and collaborations, are gone over in great depth here. Littered with commentary and interviews with the man himself from his 'shop' (yes, he's still an avid car builder), as well as words from friends Jimmy Page, Rod Stewart, Eric Clapton, Jan Hammer, Joe Perry, Slash, Beth Hart, Vinnie Colaiuta, Tal Wilkenfeld, David Gilmore, and Ron Wood, among many others. Hearing them share their stories and love for Beck is heart warming, and if you are a fan of any era or all of the mans music, this will be a MUST watch. Sprinkled with plenty of vintage concert & studio footage from throughout the decades, this is a loaded documentary of all that is Jeff Beck, the man, the musician, the legend. As an added bonus, Eagle Rock has included some previously unreleased footage from the Montreux Jazz Festival 2007, including a wild version of Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Eternity's Breath", a rip roaring "Freeway Jam", "Nadia", "Led Boots", and "Blue Wind", all staples of his concerts sets throughout the years.
While it would have been nice to see him give a tour of his guitar & gear collection in the documentary, it's a minor quibble, everything else is all here folks. Highly recommended!
