Album number four from the hard rock/metal supergroup known as The Dead Daisies sees another line-up change, this time with ex-Journey drummer Deen Castronovo taking the place the departing Brian Tichy, but the band haven't lost a step as Burn It Down is just as rousing and perhaps harder rocking than Make Some Noise.
Castronovo joins mainstays John Corabi (vocals), Doug Aldrich (guitars), David Lowy (guitars), and Marco Mendoza (bass) for this latest effort, which kicks off with the bluesy, heavy rockin' "Ressurrected", complete with slashing guitar riffs, a mean groove, and Corabi's snarling vocals. "Rise Up" follows, another sweaty face melter with some nasty slide guitar riffs adding a Southern Rock element, while the title track goes even further into some Southern styled swamp rock. Other highlights here include the equally bluesy "Judgement Day", the headbanging fury of "What Goes Around", the fiery "Dead and Gone", and a blistering take on the Rolling Stones classic "Bitch". "Can't Take it With You" also rocks hard with a sort of vintage Aerosmith swagger, and a bloozy cover of The Beatles "Revolution" rounds out this upbeat, groove laden thumper of an album.
As far as modern bluesy heavy rock goes, The Dead Daisies are pushing all the right buttons these days, and Burn It Down is another winner from this band of all-stars.
