Foredoomed: Ordeal

The first full song “Ghost Recurrence” definitely proves the existence of melodic death metal because when I read that description I was skeptical. This is nearly progressive in melody but the guttural utterances of the lead singer will promptly put you back in a death metal mood. Next “Undawning” soars with excellent rhythm guitar work and a subtle synth in the background with clear sounding backup singers. Really enjoying the artistic song titles and lyrics which is usually lacking in death metal outfits. I mean how many times do we need to hear “black this” or ‘death that.”? Those words don’t even show up on the album.

“Search for Tomorrow” has a heavy-laden but Helloween-influenced vibe and the lead singer is discernable and drives it home. These are the finest solos on the album thus far and perhaps the best I have heard in death metal in years. “Dualism” is their version of a single and is accompanied with a video on the internet. By itself this song is serene and sonically held back from the rest of the album. It jams but its jubilant and justifiably takes the band to the unique place in death metal.

“Departure” is a very short song lead by acoustic guitar and a solemn vocal that again takes you to a plateau unlike any death metal band I heard before. It’s hauntingly beautiful and a well-timed break towards the center of the album. But the break is over with “My Epitaph in Woe” a track which would scare a zombie back into the grave. Foredoomed ends with a mega-epic track of fifteen minutes entitled “Ordeal” full of melodic, thrash and death metal melted into one giant assault on your unsuspecting senses. The incredible range of this band is astounding at times capable of putting a child asleep and at other times blowing up a city. Strategic keyboards throughout this furious foray work perfect with outstanding guitar work and the passionate vocals of a soon-to-be death metal superstar.
