Forte Ruin: Rebuilding The Machinery
Finnish death metal band Forte Ruin have released their second EP Rebuilding The Machine, the follow up to their self-titled effort released in 2015. The band’s sound continues to be quite melodic, mixing clean vocals and death growls very effectively. The lineup remains the same consisting of Arttu Ruusunen (lead vocals), Saku Aaltonen (guitars, vocals), Samu Aaltonen (guitars, vocals), Jere Aaltonen (drums), Veli-Matti Kyllönen (keyboards) and Arto Viitanen (bass, vocals).
I really like the use of keyboards adding more of a textural element giving the music an orchestral feel. Of course with any death metal band the guitar riffs are dominant and technically this band is very tight. For me, the added clean vocals is a big plus complimenting the growls nicely. The first track “Down In Perdition” is a heavy track with nice keyboard embellishments and a pretty catchy chorus. A moody keyboard layer runs through the title track, another solid tune, maybe not quite as heavy as its predecessor. One of my favourite tunes is the super catchy “Colony Collapse Disorder” with the vocal arrangement being particular impressive. Another beauty is the heavy “Electric Frames”. The chorus is really catchy, especially the mixture of clean vocals and growls. During the quieter interlude clean guitar chords and tasty keyboards offer a nice reprieve.
This is a solid metal album with excellent melodies throughout. Hopefully the band will release a full length album soon.
