Canadian power trio La Chinga have created a fun, addicting collection of songs here on their latest release for Small Stone, titled Beyond the Sky. The band, who are comprised of Carl Spackler (bass, vocals), Ben Yardley (guitar, vocals), and Jason Solyom (drums), fuse classic influences such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, and the MC5 with a touch of psychedelia and dabbles of '80s glam metal swagger for a sound that will get you on your feet and have you dusting your air guitar out of its case.
"Mama Boogie" features some molten, effects laden lead guitar solos and grooves to die for, while the infectious "Wings of Fire" is a can't miss heavy rock anthem with killer hooks. The Zep influenced stomp of "Black River" and "Beyond the Sky" kicks some major booty with beefy riffs and endless bottom end, while "Keep on Rollin' " could be the long lost cousin of "When the Levee Breaks". "Nothing That I Can't Do", "Killer Wizard", "Feel it In My Bones", and "Death Rider" are mid '80s throwbacks to a sleazier hard rock era, hints of Great White, Krokus, and Cinderella looming large, "H.O.W. (Are You Ready)" blends Riot with Van Halen, and final cut "Warlords" , just, well, kicks ass, another track featuring mind bending guitar histrionics courtesy of Yardley.
Overall, a raucous and lively affair from these Canadians that is just a lot of fun to listen to, which, when you get right down to it, is really what music is all about, isn't it? Nice job guys!
