Sweden's Terminal Function really seem to like the EP format these days, as they've now followed their previous 3-song release less than a year later with a 4-track offering this time around, titled The Great Liberator. Once again drawing a huge influence from their fellow Swedish mates Meshuggah, Terminal Function have hit a home run here for any fan of bone crushing, technical, djent styled riffing, acrobatic drum patterns, blazing lead guitar solos, and vicious, barking vocals. "The End Delivered" contains a wealth of stop/start passages and bottom heavy riff-o-rama, while the dazzling lead guitar glides over a cacophony of poly-rhythms on the complex "Residuality". "Blackened Monuments" packs plenty of venom, the growling vocals delivered with mean intent, the drums dynamic, and the sizzling lead guitars simply jaw dropping. Closing out this 15-minute bludgeoning is "Elles Surgissent", another collision of death metal & djent, the riffs menacing and the lead guitar & bass quite jazzy.
If you are a fan of technical death metal, djent, and the mighty Meshuggah, The Great Liberator is a hell of a great listen. Nice to see Terminal Function keeping busier than they were earlier in their career-this is a very tasty EP of extreme sounds.
