Okay, let me first rescues myself, by stating that Drone Metal seems like a conflict in terms and I have never purchased it willingly. That said; I have heard many non-standard, non-rhythmic musical pieces that have kept my interest and inspired some thought. The Grimm Robe Demos is not one of those. Sunn O))) are made up of guitarists Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson. The Grimm Robe Demos include bassist Bootsy Kronos.
There is no rhythm and no melody. This is simply strike distorted note or chord and hold for long periods of time. There is no better description than Drone. And with each song being between 14 and 21 minutes, they definitely drone on and on and on and on and on.
I have tried very hard to put myself in the shoes of someone who might purchase this, but I must tell you that there really is no way for me to enjoy this. It isn't technically difficult like some RIO, it isn't artistically making a statement like much eclectic music. It is simply droning on and on the way a 10 year old with his first distortion peddle might.
If you like the genre of Invokation, then I assume you will love this cult classic. If you like your music to actually have a song somewhere in its makeup, then you best pass Sunn O))) by.
