Drum virtuosos Asaf Sirkis and his Inner Noise trio featuring guitarist Mike Outram and keyboard player Steve Lodder released We Are Falling back in 2005, another sizzling set of instrumental jazz fusion, but this time around Lodder only uses synthesizers, mimicking the church organ on a few tracks rather than record directly with the massive instrument.
The emotional strains of "Another Being" kick off the album, a melancholy slice of jazz with some poignant notes from Outram and waves of organ from Lodder while Sirkis drops in some inventive fills underneath. The more groove laden "Life Itself" follows, visions of the Tony Williams Lifetime popping up as Sirkis rumbles and Outram explodes with a fiery guitar solo reminiscent of John McLaughlin, eventually giving way to synth solos from Lodder. Haunting and slightly spacey synth, organ, and guitar tones permeate the moody two part "Galactic Citizen", followed by the upbeat title track, a bright, energetic jazz-fusion number littered with tasty soloing from both Outram and Lodder, with Sirkis also putting on a furious display of his own. "Ida & Dactyl" is another highlight, Lodder contributing a spectacular piano solo on this memorable, laid back jazz piece.
Perhaps the most well rounded of the Inner Noise releases, We Are Falling has a little something for everyone and features some stellar performances by the trio of Sirkis, Lodder, and Outram.
