UK hard rockers The Brew have very quietly been around now for a decade and have released a handful of albums, their latest titled Art of Persuasion for Napalm Records. Containing 11 new songs, Art of Persuasion offers a modern rock style that dips into the '70s at times but with a healthy nod to the '90s Seattle scene. Images of Pearl Jam, Wolfmother, Aerosmith, and Led Zeppelin pop up in spots on tunes such as "One Line Crimes", the crunchy "Boomerang Fool", the fuzzy grooves of "Gin Soaked Loving Queen", and the bombastic "Shaking the Room". "Pointless Pain" bubbles and boils, the guitar riffs packed with meaty textures and the drums pounding, and the anthemic "Excess" does a great job of prompting the listener to get up and pump a fist to the sky and crank out the air guitar.
With all the good to be found on Art of Persuasion, there is a slight 'generic' quality that seeps in from time to time, a few of the songs having a very similar feel that creeps the meter back in terms of overall variety, but for the most part this is a very solid collection of hard rock tunes with plenty of hooks, fat guitar riffs, and strong vocals that is easy to recommend.
