It's been a decade since we've last heard from progressive metal veterans Tomorrow's Eve, but the German band are finally back with their follow-up to 2008's Tales From Serpentia, Mirror of Creation III-Project Ikaros, which is actually the sequel to Mirror Of Creation 2 - Genesis II from 2006. Man, how time flies! The band have also had some line-up changes recently, with the new configuration for this latest album consisting of:

The much traveled Macaluso and the Symphony X mainstay LePond bring some incredible talents to this already talented unit, and the band are certainly at the top of their game on this new concept album. "Welcome to the Show" kicks things off, majestic piano and synths from Schwickert lead into some crushing riffage from Grund, LeMar soaring over the top with his powerful vocals while the rhythm duo rumble along with expert precision. Look for some sizzling guitar & synth solos on this supercharged opener as well. A great start! "Morpheus" is up next, a bombastic, heavy number with stampeding riffs and haunting keyboards, while the gymnastic, complex "Bread and Circuses" shows off the bands musical virtuosity, churning guitar & keys supported by dynamic drumming from Macaluso, LeMar sounding not far removed from Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson with his potent delivery and LePond putting on a clinic with his rock solid bass grooves. "The System" has a strong Queensryche feel to it, and the heavy hitting yet symphonic "Imago" features some great melodies, the vocal hook delivered by a delightfully snarling LeMar.
"Law and Order" is the longest track here at just under 9-minutes, and will be a must hear for any Dream Theater/Symphony X fan, the keys majestic, the guitars thunderous, Tomorrow's Eve doing a fine job of going from 'light to shade' and keeping the listener on their toes. Great synth solo from Schwickert too on this mini-epic. "Dream Within a Dream" follows, a fun, groove laden number with haunting melodies and big, fat riffs, which leads into the raging "Terminal", images of Dream Theater and Planet X popping up, the incredible synergy between Schwickert & Grund instantly apparent. Kick ass track. A similar feel is experienced with "Inner Sanctum", LeMar again just killing it on the vocals, while the slightly doomy "Somnium Ex Machina" and the bombastic "Gods Among Each Other" appears to end this long trilogy in grand fashion.
Pretty compelling stuff from Tomorrow's Eve, which, we've really come to expect from this mega-talented band. Though it's been a long wait for fans, Mirror of Creation III-Project Ikaros was well worth the wait. Will this current line-up stay together going forward is anyone's guess, but as they stand now these guys can be serious players on the prog-metal scene if all the stars align correctly.
