Recorded some 15 years ago in Toronto, this action packed DVD of The Pat Travers Band is a serious hard rock buffet of tasty guitar licks and kick ass boogie. Pat's music always bridged the gap between hard rock, metal, boogie, and the blues, and here he and his crew of Peter "Mars" Cowling (bass) , Jerry Riggs (guitar) and Scott Zymowski (drums) really rip it up with a mix of his best tunes.
As he did back in the early 80's with guitarist Pat Thrall, Travers and Riggs make for a formidable team, as the two lay down many lethal solos and bluesy hard rock riffs throughout this 70 minute set. From the scorching "Snortin' Whisky", the funky "Gettin' Betta", to the proggy "Stevie", there's plenty of vintage hard rock to be heard and seen here. Of course, you can be rest assured that the band rips into the crowd pleaser "Boom Boom (Out Go the Lights)" as well as the heavy blues stomp of "Born Under a Bad Sign" to close out the set, but the real kicker is the instrumental "Guitars From Hell", featuring wicked and intricate dual licks from both Travers and Riggs (who is one hell of a player-wonder what he is doing these days?) that impresses at every level.
As good as this show is, the DVD itself is lackluster, with no special features at all, and the quality is just above average. Still, any Pat Travers live video is a good thing in my book. For great 70's styled guitar rock, you can't go wrong here.
