The RG's are a Belgian power trio who play an energetic brand of stoner/pop/psych/punk music, and The Cricket Sounds is their new album for Headache Music. Comprised of nine tracks, The Cricket Sounds is a fun and upbeat listen, filled with plenty of dirty guitar riffs, smashing drums, and all sorts of trippy effects which at times lean this into psychedelic & prog waters, but there's a grunge and punk mentality that's always present, giving many of these tracks an accessible feel. As you can see by the song titles, many of these tell a story about people the band know personally, and it's not hard to like "Stevie, the Guy Who Didn't Pay Us", "Bored Ass Tony", and "My Friend Ed", each one enjoyable and plenty rocking. Other noteworthy tunes include the pummeling title track, with its raging riffs and fat bass, the atmospheric "All Day", and the pure headbanging stoner grooves of "Smack Your Neighbour".
Plenty to recommend here on The Cricket Sounds from a trio that have an accessible sound with lots to offer. File under 'hard rocking & fun'.
