Angel of Damnation: Heathen Witchcraft

The always dependable Shadow Kingdom Records released this very solid sophomore release from doom merchants Angel of Damnation at the tail end of 2018, and for those of you playing catch-up with all that you missed from what was a very strong year, here's another one to add to your list. Dripping with influences such as Candlemass, Pentagram, Crimson Glory, Black Sabbath, and St. Vitus, Heathen Witchcraft offers up a fair share of brooding, heavy riffs and Doomcult Messiah's high pitched, 'stretching-for-the-stratosfear' vocals, which sound like a cross between Messiah Marcolin and the late Midnight. "Brimstone Sorcery" lumbers and plods along in fine fashion, but it's the more tumultuous, rumbling cuts such as "Dragged to the Torture Wheel", "Lord of the Seven Churches", and the massive title track that make up some of the 'must hear' songs here. Closer "Tear Off the Veil of the Sun" even hints at some Witchfinder General, which ain't such a bad thing either.

All in all, fun, and certainly heavy doom metal album from a band that without a doubt deserve your attention.
