Iron Savior: Kill or Get Killed
I might have mentioned previously that I really dig Iron Savior. They just really float my boat and probably have for the best part of twenty years. I’ve never bothered to get to grips with the underlying concepts behind much of their output because in the main I just want what the Savior deliver so very well, namely gargantuan riffs, face melting solos, drums that sound like your house falling down around you and top quality singalong choruses.
Iron Savior pretty much never disappoint and they don’t here. This is a fantastic album to gun down the motorway (highway for our American friends) and bash the steering wheel something rotten. Screaming at the top of your lungs is not optional it’s expected and very difficult NOT to do such is the power of the Savior melodies.
As with all Savior albums the wheel remains resolutely intact and unchanged so much so that a cover of AC/DC’s "Sin City" is tagged onto the end and it’s pretty amusing to hear Piet Sielck affect a Bon Scott style voice on this one. Despite the fun of this cover it’s the original material which delights. There’s always one song on any Iron Savior record which is highly commercial and a bit of an ear worm. On this album it’s the highly infectious "Never Stop Believing" which can best be described as Iron Savior tackle melodic rock.
The rest of the material is solid proper heavy metal with the first four tracks in particular getting the juices flowing and there isn’t a single duff track to be heard. All the usual Savior lyrical preoccupations are present and correct and the universe gets a mention in the opening verse. Loyalty , duty and honour also feature as one might expect.
All in all, it’s very much a case of carry on, as you were which is very much a good thing.
