Our friends over at Eagle Vision/Universal have a real winner on their hands with this latest Blu-ray release, the 1978 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre from US hard rockers Foreigner. At the time, still somewhat of a fresh face though riding high on their best selling debut album, Foreigner were hot on the heels of the tour of that debut and unleashing songs from their soon to be released sophomore album Double Vision.
The set list here is a 'best of' that stellar debut album, plus you get two songs from the not yet released at the time second album. The band are in top notch form, leader Mick Jones firing off a non-stop assault of crunchy riffs & stinging solos on his Gibson Les Paul, vocalist Lou Gramm showing why he was one of the most beloved singers of his day, former King Crimson member Ian McDonald mightily contributing rhythm guitar, keyboards, sax, flute, and backing vocals, Al Greenwood's proggy keyboards & synthesizers, plus the standout rhythm team of bassist Ed Gagliardi and drummer Dennis Elliott. Both the audio and video quality here is outstanding, as the band tear into classic tracks such as "Hot Blooded", 'Cold as Ice", "Long, Long Way From Home", a wonderful "Starrider" (their prog-rock epic!), "Double Vision", "Feels Like the First Time", and a sledgehammer "At War With the War", among many others. Who said this band couldn't rock, and rock hard?
Live at the Rainbow '78 is a Blu-ray you will certainly want to seek out, as it's proof positive of just how lethal a band Foreigner were at this stage of their then young career. Essential!
