Rise Above Records is proud to give you the debut album from Detroit heavy rock act Octopus, titled Supernatural Alliance, a smoldering, fuzz laden, slightly proggy slice of glorious '70s love led by the enchanting vocals of Masha Marjieh and the mountains of riffage courtesy of J Frezzato. Whether it be those juicy Black Sabbath styled doom/stoner riffs and Deep Purple keyboards of "Slaves and Master", the psych/hard rock rumble of "Beyond the Center", the heavy prog of the title cut, the Grand Funk Railroad garage rock of "Strike (While the Iron is Hot)", or the bombastic doom that is the crushing "The Unknown", each and every track here is a thrill ride. "Sword and the Stone" is catchy as hell, the band latching onto a groove and Marjieh soaring to the heavens (definite hard rock hit potential here!), while "All the Love" is a bluesy trip through '60s styled space rock & psychedelia...groovy baby, groovy. Big fat fuzzed riffs collide with swirling Hammond organ on "Black Dynamite", and closer "Dragonhead" is another hook laden rocker, sort of like Blondie had they gone full stoner.
Somehow we missed this one in 2018, but thanks for one of our YouTube channel viewers we were alerted to the great music on this stellar debut, and I can safely say that Octopus clearly have a very bright future ahead of them. Great stuff!
