California classic hard rock & metal act Gygax have just released their third album High Fantasy for Creator Destructor Records, and it's a good one, containing nine new songs of Thin Lizzy inspired twin guitar heavy rock majesty. Combining their love for classic rock music and Dungeons & Dragons inspired fantasy lyrics, Gygax have put together a very listenable and tasty album here, chock full of potent vocals, driving rhythms, and of course a wealth of twin-guitar firepower. The band are comprised of:
*Eric* (Cleric) - Bass/Voice & Guitar
*Bryant* (Fighter) - Guitar & Guitar
*Wes* (Wizard)- Guitar & Guitar
*Mucho* (Shaman) - Drums & Guitar
Many of the tracks here are fairly short and to the point, none stretching past four minutes, so High Fantasy is a fairly brief yet effective album. "Light Bender" and "Mage Lust" bristle with catchy hooks and dazzling guitar harmonies, while "Mirror Image" will take you back to the glory days of Thin Lizzy with its wonderful twin guitars and booming, galloping grooves. Other highlights include the riffy "Hide Mind", the complex rocker "Spell Shaker", the groove laden & hooky "Something So Familiar", and the headbanging yet highly melodic title track.
Classy stuff all around, High Fantasy is highly recommended for any classic rock & metal fan who loves melodic songs packed with tasty twin guitar harmonies. Well done guys!
