Destrage: The Chosen One
Italian Progressive Metalcore band Destrage has yet again delivered a spastic, fun and mind-blowing record with their latest release, The Chosen One. These Italians continue with their own blend of Djent, Progressive Death Metal, Metalcore and whatever other Metal genre that you’d like to add to the mix and churn out some uber interesting, uber complex and just some straight up badassery!
The Chosen One (Metal Blade Records) is the band’s fifth full-length effort and is another slab of brilliance with heavy groove and mountainous riffage. Lead track, lead single and title track, “The Chosen One” is a perfect example of what Destrage is all about….calculated bombast! They slowly bring you in and then wallop you over the head with a jackhammer, syncopated riffing, completely with both clean and emotive screamed vocals. This sets up the next song, “About That” which steps up the cerebral pummeling with video game like sounds from guitar tapping noodling that frame this staggering tune. I did say this was a fun listen! Destrage utilize their stop/start manic riffing like no one else and it just bashes you around in such a good, almost comical way that it’s perplexing and exhilarating.
The Chosen One is an 8 song workout of the senses that is produced elegantly and is filled with musically complex, fascinating and intriguing music that always has an air of humor woven throughout. With song titles like, “Headache And Crumbs”, you know these guys have a great sense of humor and Destrage’s level of musicianship, this allows them the freedom to create their own singular originality. I love these guys. Check out this album!
