Peare, Rich: Classic Jazz Guitar
Rich Peare is an acoustic jazz/classical player who began as a classical artist then switched to jazz a number of years back. He has released three solo albums, his latest being Classic Jazz Guitar. It’s just him and his acoustic on this seven track album. The first two tracks; “Forlorn Hope Fancy” and ‘Farewell” were originally written by John Dowland, a Renaissance composer and lutenist. His classical influence shines brightly in these slightly melancholic reimaginings. The rest of the disc is taken up by some great standards including a wonderful take on the Charlie Parker classic “Yard Bird Suite” where his guitar has depth and tremendous detail. One almost doesn’t miss Parker’s genius sax workings. The pretty “What I’ll Do” is calming and really quite beautiful while Luis Bonfa’s “A Day In The Life Of A Fool” gently swings on Peare’s nylon strings. He really is a fantastic player. As such, fans of guitar music should be suitably impressed.
