WARP: WARP

WARP is a new band to me, coming all the way from Tel Aviv. They formed just a few years ago and released their self-titled debut this past February. The band come from a punk background and have steadily built up their recognition after years of gigging. WARP play heavy rock music, built on intense guitar riffage and driving beats. A bit of doom, sludge and psych is added as well so yes, this is some pretty heavy stuff. The vocals are pretty catchy as well as the riffs so through all the heaviness and distortion there are still some decent melodies to latch onto.

On the album opening “Wretched”, the thick and heavy riffs begin abruptly and soon after the drums bang and crash and the fuzz and distortion begins. The gang-like vocals are really infectious and a couple of ripping guitar solos ensue. The tempo goes from fast to slow as a bit of doominess unfolds. “Into My Life” is another pretty catchy track, definitely punk influenced with an aggressive attitude. The sludgy and doomy heaviness of “Gone Man” invokes imagery of Black Sabbath and the following tune “Confusion Will Be My Epitaph” is just as heavy…and just as catchy as any track on the disc. The galloping riffs in “Intoxication” makes for more heavy stuff while the slow grinding “Out Of My Life” is pure doom.

You just can’t help but appreciate this band’s energy and reckless abandon, a sort of organized chaos if you will. It works great and if you like guitar based music you have come to the right disc. Please check it out and support the band.
