Roadsaw: Tinnitus The Night

Riff monsters Roadsaw is a Boston based outfit with eight albums to their credit since their formation in 1995. After an eight year break from making albums, their last was their 2011 self-titled effort, the heavy onslaught continues with Tinnitus The Night, released in 2018. In the band are Craig Riggs (drums and vocals), Ian Ross (guitars) and Tim Catz (bass).

I’ll say this right off the bat, this is some heavy stuff. The first track “Along For The Ride” is a prime example of what you get; a thundering rhythm section, fuzz soaked riffs that are absolutely monstrous and squelching solo guitar outbursts. The vocals are excellent as well, slightly gruff and really catchy. Just some great riffs in this one. On “Shake” the guitar onslaught is just as heavy with a deep bottom end and more catchy progressions. Super thick slabs of guitar riffage and more catchy vocals, what’s not to like? “Fat Rats” is another relentlessly catchy riff burner while ripping guitar solos and deep fuzz highlight the speedy “Final Phase”. The effects on the lead vocals are also pretty cool. The heavy doomy riffs and rumbling bass in “Peel” is another delightful moment. The more subdued vocals, including some creepy whispering help to make this one of my favourite tracks.

Roadsaw has made one of the best stoner rock albums I have heard this past year. Highly recommended for anyone at all interested in heavy music.
