Djam Karet: A Sky Full Of Stars For A Roof

It’s hard to believe Californian progsters Djam Karet are celebrating their 35th anniversary as a band. After nineteen studio albums, their latest being A Sky Full Of Stars For A Roof, all original members are still intact. Very impressive indeed.

Djam Karet is such a quality progressive rock band I’m not sure why I only have around five of their albums. A Sky Full Of Stars For A Roof is instrumental progressive rock bliss with moments of ambient, psychedelic and atmospheric prog. The keyboard and guitar work is simply sublime throughout the disc and the acoustic guitar is a real treat, some of the tastiest you will hear on a prog album. Wind effects and gentle keyboards begin “Beyond The Frontier” and as a tasty electric guitar solo and expansive keyboards unfold a sitar adds a touch of the exotic. The deeper bass tones add some darker elements ensuring the listener never gets bored. A crystal clean keyboard , ala Alan Parsons, begins “Long Ride To Eden” and again delving into some excellent lead acoustic guitar. A collage of keyboard textures and a lovely laid back electric guitar solo adds a nice mix of spacey elements and melody. On the title track the band stretch out into Pink Floyd territory with its super tripped out soundscapes and atmospheric textures. Another excellent track and the longest on the CD.

Djam Karet again shows why they are one of the more consistently excellent bands in prog, their talent and creativity knows no bounds. A Sky Full Of Stars For A Roof is absolutely superb.
