Dream Ocean: Lost Love Symphony

Dream Ocean is a symphonic rock/metal band which formed in Turkey in 2009 by singer Basak Ylva Ceber and guitarist Oz Khan. A few years later the band found themselves in Germany and cemented their lineup with:

Borna Matosic (guitar)
Sebastian Heuckmann (bass guitar)
Nils Kessen (drums)
Sebastian Pluck (keyboards)

The band was able to sign with Painted Bass Records and released their debut album Lost Love Symphony in 2018. Although we have heard this style of music many times before (symphonic bombast in the vein of Nightwish or Epica) the band’s sound is very professional and polished and catchy as hell. The first track is the short intro “Inception” and is a sweeping and cinematic orchestral piece with dramatic builds that leads directly into the heavy riffage of “Beyond The Greed”, a heavy burst of symphonic metal with excellent guitar and keyboards. The symphonic break with lovely backing vocals is a real treat for the ears. The catchy “Hain” could have been a single, instead that honour goes to “Forever”, a stand out slice of orchestral metal and perhaps the most Nightwish sounding track on the disc. The catchy riffs, sweeping keyboards and tasty guitar soloing in “Everstorm” makes for more ear catching listening. Basak’s vocals are truly superb. The last track “Island of Dreams” is almost ten minutes of stunning dramatics and fantastic guitar and keyboard riffs.

Lost Love Symphony is so infectious and melodic one simply cannot ignore what the band has accomplished here. Within the realm of symphonic metal this one is a sure fire winner.
