Beastmaker: Eye of the Storm

With Eye of the Storm, the short but exciting career of doom metal trio Beastmaker comes to an end, vocalist/guitarist Trevor William Church & bassist John Tucker deciding to to put the band to rest as they lend all their energies to their other powerhouse act, Haunt. With this final EP, Beastmaker offer up four outstanding tracks of Black Sabbath & NWOBHM styled music, heavy doom riffs colliding with killer guitar solos, pounding drumming, plenty of melody and most importantly songs that are instantly memorable. "Shadows" is absolutely incredible, the riffs menacing, the vocals having that old school 'Ozzy' flair to them, with tasty leads and hooks galore. The opening title track crushes, while "My Only Wish" is like Sabbath-meets-Queensryche, leaving the final track as pure psychedelic doom, Pentagram, St. Vitus, and Sabbath influences flying all over the place.

Heavy, heavy stuff, but incredibly memorable at the same time, this is a strong EP from a band that will be missed, but hopefully somewhere down the road we shall hear from them once again.
