Headcat 13: Headcat 13

A few years ago rockabilly guitarist Danny B. Harvey teamed up with Lemmy (Motörhead) and Slim Jim Phantom (The Stray Cats) and released Fool’s Paradise. After Lemmy’s passing Harvey has since hooked up with bassist Alan Davey (Hawkwind) and drummer Paul Vezelis to form Headcat 13. Their self-titled release found a home on Cleopatra Records.

If you like home grown rock music with a fifties twist albeit with a more modern heavier sound you can’t go wrong with this one. Great grooves, fiery guitar fills, gravelly (yet catchy) lead vocals and an overall head sticking catchiness is what this album is all about. This is not complicated and it absolutely rocks beginning with the opening cut “Let’s Go Crazy” filled with outstanding guitar work. Big fuzzy bass and a gritty rock attack can be heard on “Wigglin’ And A Jigglin” while “That’s It That’s All” is more of a mid-tempo slow burner. More feel good rockers include “Somebody’s Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonite”, the classic “Route 66” and the fast fret work in “Reckless, Wild And Crazy”.

There is nothing fancy about this one folks. Just honest to goodness rock and roll, pure and simple. I am digging this one more and more.
