Majestica: A Christmas Carol

Releasing Christmas albums into the cold and blissful wintery months usually get thrown into the apparent overlooked category, however for a superlative elite like Majestica many Power metal fanatics have been excited to see the end product distributed from Tommy Johansson and company; leaving those roasting by an open fire listening to some metallic Christmas cheer and festively suited extravagance. Majestica hailing from the high-spirited Swedish kingdom and formerly known as Reinxeed, appear to be an elevated force not be reckoned with and the Scandinavian warlords have already released one glorious outing into the elemental midst of society in the form of the astoundingly pompous effort Above the Sky, nonetheless Majestica offer us something a little bit on the distinctive side this time around in the shape of A Christmas Carol; but yet when it comes to other Melodic Power Metal portfolios from other outfits this kind of subject does not get visited as much or if not at all.

Accompanied by an opening and closing instrumental, A Christmas Carol astutely parodies renowned channels of Christmas carols and shrewdly imbeds them within a range of bombastic cheese-ridden constructed Power Metal anthemic exhibits and majestically moving sleigh bell escapades of emotional season; escorting the extensive festivities through a passage of yuletide adventures within this captivating score and fundamentally mastered musicality created by the multi-talented Sabaton guitarist Tommy Johannson.

Hitting the high benchmarks through the upraising singles of the momentum building manifestation of ‘Ghost of Christmas Past’ and the heart-warming components combined to assemble the alluring transitions of ‘The Joy of Christmas’; keeping listeners securely engrossed in the appealingly burly works of Tommy’s remarkably breath-taking vocal lines and the following awe-inspiring orchestration from the storytelling rest of the accomplished Majestica crew " Azoria bassist Chris David, second guitarist Alex Oriz and Veonity drummer Joel Kollberg.

With highs there are occasionally some lows layered deep within many forming spectacles and harmonious demonstrations, nevertheless this mellifluously tender-hearted and sweet-sounding benefaction does grab the attention of devotees to this particularly polite genre of music but does not straightforwardly win on all aspects or grounds whilst this record can unfortunately get left on the tedious side of town in small doses; resulting in musical exhaustion in certain displays as heard towards the latter end of this reasonably solid production and this harmoniously-merry fabricated demonstration through tracks like the needless instrumental ‘A Majestic Christmas Theme’.

Having seen Reinxeed in the past at Sabaton Open Air Festival in Falun, Sweden in 2018 and owning a signed T shirt by Johansson and force, I hope one day to catch Majestica live and hear some of Above the Sky or possibly excerpts from A Christmas Carol in the essence of reality during a live performance once these crazy times are over; another solid expedition of swift melodically driven Metal right into the arms of fans around the globe from the dignified four of Majestica.
