Airborn: Lizard Secrets - Part Two-Age of Wonder

Two years after the latest distribution of 2018’s Lizard Secrets - Part One -Land of the Living from Turin’s Heavy power Metallions Airborn, the Italian elite bring forth another epic spell from the necromancers' cauldron whilst delivering the goods with a majestic breath of fresh air inspiring a hymnbook of melodically formed metalicious anthems and an aspiringly portfolio of reptilian wavelengths; ushering forward the subsequent instalment of the untold tales from the lizard during the mid-December ambitiously commanding release of Lizard Secrets - Part Two -Age of Wonder.

Fronted by the proficiently talented Alessio Perardi, Airborn get things moving relatively rapidly with a “no messing around” attitude or demeanour with the fundamental brawny forces of the elegantly written ground stomper ‘Soultraveller’ with reminiscing sounds from Cryonic Temple, Derdian, and Veonity before ejecting us through the essences of lift off with the following flavouring of the face-melting spectacle and the thunderous episode of ‘Edge of Disaster’ divided with a middle instrumental section to die for; declaring the true spirit of the distinctive reign of Italian-stylised Heavy Metal and melodious musicality in the most verifiably constructed shape or form.

Sliding into the culminations of this solidified presentation of straight pedal to the metal pulsating power and grit, the thrash influenced riffage of ‘Follow The leader’ endlessly shines through to beckon who comes forth towards its pinnacle and the firing on all cylinders elusively erupting pace racing tempo titan of ‘Speed of life’; significantly adds to the essence of this muscular mixture of well written tracks and delivers well after a few spins of the outfits sixth studio endeavour.

Following on from the first half of the second part of this conceptual subject matter, Airborn really extend to magisterial heights and deliver a punchy steadily paced number of ‘Condemned to believe’ that suits well with the establishing foundations layered within this sublime donation of Heavy/Power musicianship from the axe slaying guitar maestro Roberto Capucchio, the chunky bass lines from the excellent Domenico Burratti, the double bass perfection from drummer Roberto Gaia and of course the magnificent addition of Perardi on keys.

Winning the whims of the climatic apex from the whole of this record as a summarized whole is the stunning graceful masterpiece that is delivered in the form of the eagle soaring ‘Troubles’, stratified with the most prestigious guitar work and a hot bubbling pot of instrumentalization to make the points of your hairs stand up on the back of your neck; pushing the boundaries of the Airborn assembly to its possible maximum potential and becoming one of the band’s best works to date.

Before eventually reaching the closing curtains we venture into the progressive heritage of this hefty formation of robust Metal and efficient mastery with another supplementary section from this substantial offering ‘Scarecrow Days’ in the advance of the effort conducting its own way and passage into the phenomenal ending and finale with the eleven minutes plus opus of ‘Star A Star’; leading storytelling fanatics into something ultimately fascinating and leaving them behind a piece of possibly is to come in the future of Airborn.

Not all is raging with superior elegance and charm on this reptilian adventure, the production at times does lack that final kick that one may wish to find and can feel a little empty in places, nonetheless this does not mean in any shape or form that this masquerade of amiable heavy melodies suffers for song writing quality but could do with that extra nudge in the producing department for even better results than we already have; whichever is just me additionally being that little bit picky when it comes to reviewing and listening when actually this is notably a marvellous release from the Italians.
