Kuprij, Vitalij: Progression
Through the mighty power of God and the striking elegant whispers from beyond, the masterly Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Ring of Fire keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij rises from the ashes with a contemporary release in the name of the intensifying spectacle of Progression; escorting a palace of melodious passages into a musical neighborhood of mellifluous chambers and a hallway of harmoniously-driven Neoclassical Progressive Metal.
Usually, higher quantities of instrumental outputs end up on an accelerating scale leading to a wandering offshoot of something that has been done repetitively through previous endeavors, however, I would not say this entirely does not follow suit but Progression does carry some interesting wavelengths to capture the heart of Heavy Metal composition work and the technical aspects to usher along with it; evidently witnessed through the divine essences of the stupendous ‘Revolution-Evolution’ and the magnificently conducted opening episode of the progressively-stylised Maiden-esque powerhouse ‘Internal Force’.
Originally hailing from the seventh-most populated location in Ukraine before moving to the United States, Vitalij is renowned for his perplexingly gifted sound distributed from his wide desk of his own keys and it is notably manifested throughout this influential effort with a sublime matter of effect; especially trough the illustrious charms of the quickening gusts embedded within the brilliant outlet known as ‘Sinfonietta’ and the extravagant fragments dwindling within the paths of the cumulative framework of the identically titled euphoniously heightening mountain climber of ‘Progression’; distributing the charms of the Neoclassical flavoured foundations easily sitting alongside the deepening compartments of the Progressively rooted elements without losing any actual hints or taste of the Heavy Metal genre along the way before reprising it’s role later on the album with ‘Progression (reprise)’.
Whilst successfully delivering a brawny attempt at recapturing the true soul or spirit of the accomplishing surrounding structural components of the keyboard-based shred factor, Kuprij with a charming ease and a stylishly-suited splendor really can play his heart out; whilst also scouting an excellent accompanying talent with him through his backing elite after not releasing a solo record for 12 long years and making a solidified comeback through solitary journeys once again.
