Walk The Walk: Walk The Walk

The fact that this album appears on a label called ‘AOR Heaven’ gives a strong idea of the musical contents of Walk The Walk’s debut. This appears to be more of a project than a band - two musicians (vocalist J. Adler and multi-instrumentalist Paul Alfery) who seem to have made a career as session/ guest musicians with a number of known (and unknown) rock acts, and recorded their parts separately (not such a novelty these days admittedly, even before Covid-19 forced most bands in to this scenario). The melodic rock world seems awash with such projects, most of them not particularly noteworthy, so my expectations for this album were quite low, however I was pleasantly surprised. From the upbeat, feel-good rock of opener “Heaven’s On It’s Way Down” you get a good idea of what to expect " beefy guitars are front and centre, gang vocals are all over the place and there is a slightly sleazy, good time vibe reminiscent of the likes of Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and (particularly) Def Leppard, all in their eighties pomp. The sound is refreshingly hard hitting for this genre, with keyboards only really taking centre stage for the two (almost obligatory) power ballads, and whilst the vocals aren’t exceptional they do a decent job of delivering the catchy choruses. The mid-paced pieces are decent, but when the tempo rises this is where Walk The Walk excels in my opinion- “Two Miles To Go”, “Fight On Your Feet” and “Getaway” get the head nodding nicely.

Not everything here is top drawer, and if you’re looking for originality or a forward-looking approach forget it, but if you are in the mood for some good time eighties-style hard rock with strong melodies, sharp riffs and memorable choruses you should check this out.
