Wizard: Metal in My Head
When proudness is showered with an elite of the most muscular Epic Metal, you have a superior product formed in the shape of Germany’s True Heavy Metal warriors known as Wizard and a colossal championship of a brave assembly of a speed coated branch of Power Metal; distributing a well-known faction into the light from out of the darkest realms and into the world of some victoriously triumphant Metal Feasts.
Celebrating a long and expansive 30-year career as a herculean unit, the North-Rine Westphalia quintet escort their loud and proud formation of extravagant musicality to the table with the outfit’s twelfth ambitiously constructed offering in the name of the cliché paint by numbers title Metal in My Head; delivering a ten-track portfolio with a driven nature spread alongside a remarkable portion of numerous simplistic and effective Heavy Metal anthems to awaken the legions of the underworld with the heavyweight clasp of tracks like the speedy thrash infused title-track ‘Metal in My Head’ that reminds me for some apparent reason of Suicidal Tendencies, the ferociously keen commemoration marker ‘30 Years of Metal’, and the excellently composed unvanquished spectacle spirited designation of ‘Victory’.
All in all, there is nothing new appearing from the depths this time from the fantasy kingdom of Wizard, however this output certainly commands energetically as a grower and as through the conquering hope springboard of an opening episode to this benefaction - ‘I Bring Light into the Dark’ raises up those golden goblets of Rock n’ Roll and reboots the faith into all spectacles of humanity winning over the masses with ease; working convincingly well alongside the vigorously mellifluous stipulation of the riff-raging performance ‘Metal Feast’ from the masterly axemen Michael Maass and Tommy Hartung.
Notably, the highlight for me on this contemporary collection of face-melting portions from the German True Metal combatants is the superlative components set in the aspiringly magnificent cover of the Feanor ballad ‘Whirewolf’, which surprisingly vocalist Sven D’Anna is now a part of alongside the ex-Manowar guitarist David Shankle born out of the Argentinean city Buenos Aries; shaking things up in the meantime form the similar double bass driven compositions steadily instilled within this safe and solidified record.
All inclusively, a great effort from the Bocholt based troupes and another created weighty contribution to the band’s lengthy back catalogue, nevertheless there is evidently nothing really that new coming from the Wizard camp this time around and the blazing torch is still keeping its bright light in the current darker times we are now facing across the extensive widths of the globe; encouraging this list of epic gems to be sang aloud by fans with passion and the most acclaiming pride for even the next door neighbours to hear, and to suggestively add to that just simply play "Firesword" on the loudest volume you possibly can - then you will see what I mean.
