Cantisano, Tony: Enliven
Originating from the Brazilian shores of Rio de Janeiro, virtuoso guitarist Tony Castisano brings forth a new instalment of a progressively arranged instrumental fabrication in the form of the uniquely titled Enliven and this certainly fits well with all its combing forces.
Moreover, Tony is highly influenced by the likes of guitar legends Steve Vai, Jimi Hendrix and the Swedish Heavy Metal shredder Yngwie Malmsteen, however he has a diverse range of musical enjoyment and enthusiasm through the well-known renowned outfits that include groups like The Beatles, Rush and even the Hard Rock Australian-Scottish veteran outfit AC/DC.
Additionally, Cantisano has also played in a variety of bands, including the United Kingdom based River Circus and undoubtedly has a wide range of musical knowledge in his large book to deliver such an in-depth affair like his ambitiously keen 2021 effort.
Considering all his skills and all his experience, this offering has a very sweet-sounding effect and is managed really well with a combining balance that has the wide range of dynamic stations to elevate his work at the best of times; evidently witnessed on tracks like the progressive fusion monster 'Bamboo' and the enjoyably disjointed locomotive excursions from the superbly composed 'Show me Your Ride'.
Sitting right in the middle of the action, we experience the illustrious Jazz- infused absurdly titled 'The Green Truffle' that holds quite well for roughly about two minutes but then it rolls out for slightly too long in the meantime and I honestly feel that it possibly loses the listeners attention with a lack of intensity for the rest of the duration.
However, on the other side of the coin an immense change comes to hand whilst rapidly leaving the dragging 'The Green Truffle' behind and then the heftier components of a more superior indulging prodigy really hit home with the masterfully constructed 'Wild Dreams'; appearing richly seasoned with a Yes meets Dream Theater vibe in the midst of the middle section, keeping things a little bit hotter structurally and not off the tracks.
All inclusively, not the greatest outing to date this time around through Enliven but a solid one as a whole and I personally feel this one will be a well-received outing. With all things considered, the robustly talented guitar master Tony Cantisano has created another convincingly strong portfolio of some divergent instrumentation for fans of the Progressive Jazz Fusion genre integrated with a relentless wave of Heavy Metal musicality.
