Ignited: Steelbound

This debut album by Brazilian band Ignited was initially released in 2019, but seems to be getting some wider promotion now. It’s best described as traditional heavy metal with a harder edge, with chunky, buzz-saw riffs, soaring guitar solo’s and a vocalist in Denis Lima who can hit high notes worthy of Rob Halford in his prime. Indeed Judas Priest, particularly circa Painkiller, are a good reference point here, particularly on the opening track “Ignition” which comes charging out of the gate with some purpose. Elsewhere the pace is generally more steady, and in fact it’s the rare slower songs, such as the brooding “Living In The Dark”, which make the greatest impact. Many of the other songs are enjoyable whilst playing but fail to make a lasting impact. Overall a solid release though, and definitely a band that show some promise.
