The Rockit King: Fourth Turning
The Rockit King is a 4 piece hard rock outfit from Michigan and to my ears their credo is plug in, turn up, and let it rip. They are self-described as precise, lowdown, dirty and lean rock-n-roll. It’s refreshing to put something on that’s no frills or pretense. Listening to the opener “Whoa U Know”, not only do they come out of the gate swinging, they sound like a band that’s having fun. “U We Me” has a bit more of a groove, and proves that these guys can add catchy hooks to the heaviness. Guitarist Anthony Mannino is impressive, his ripping leads and chunky rhythm work make these tunes. Danny Cox (bass) and Kenny Roberts (Drums) provide a solid and forceful backing for Mannino. Vocalist Jess Beveridge belts the songs out from the gut with authority. After five straight ahead rock tunes, they offer a change of pace with the 50’s sounding “No Matter What”, but get right back on the horse with “Between The Lines” which has a searing guitar solo. The boys don’t go quietly either, the closing “Been Around” is built around a killer riff and is my favorite song on the album; this is what they do best. Saddle up to the bar, order a cold one, and get ready for these guys to rock the house.
