Multi-Instrumentalist Daniel Crommie (flutes, synthesizers, keyboards, samples, electric dulcimer, psaltery, electronic device, bell) has created a disc of ambient and diverse new-age music. I know the new age tag gets shunned, but all music has its place and purpose. Talk about having a defined mission statement, and achieving the desired result, Crommie’s website describes the music perfectly: “Peaceful soundscapes for contemplation, meditation and relaxation. Also perfect for housecleaning, sorting stones, kitchen reorganizing, window washing, writing to-do lists, sifting flour, scrubbing bathtubs, dream enhancement or just filling the open spaces when it seems too quiet.”
I’ve spent the past few days passively listening to Light Occurrences and let’s just say mission accomplished. It creates a relaxing, contemplative environment that is perfect for those stressful days of work. Obviously, there is some tongue and cheek in the suggested listening activities, but it really achieves its desired effect. Crommie has enough diversity in the music that each track has a unique flavor and stands apart from the others. I plan to continue to listen to this disc exactly as suggested.
