Liquafly liquefies metal, grunge and alternative into a rousing concoction of modern three-part-harmony rock. The Pennsylvania-based trio bridges Soundgarden and Alice In Chains on "We Try," which opens the six-track EP Dreamer. "Be Real" borrows heavily from King's X, while "Love We Shared" kicks and clangs to chunky riffs that almost drown out Brian Diamond's strong vocals, which take on tones of Faith No More's Mike Patton on "For Me." The melodically staccato "Sorry" emerges as the strongest and catchiest track, the one that will stay with you long after this CD has been put back on the shelf.
Liquafly reportedly has successfully been experimenting by playing some local acoustic gigs, which must radically alter the band's charged, low-end sound. Rather than release another album of solid but been-done-before rock, band members might want to explore another side of Liquafly's music. After all, with them citing influences as diverse as classic rock and hip-hop, there's a lot of territory for these guys to cover. We wish them well …
