InterCore: Dreams for Sale

InterCore’s debut album, Dreams for Sale, was four years in the making. The time was well spent: it is an enjoyable, if unremarkable, set of melodic hard rock songs. The band hails from Gothenburg, Sweden, and the lineup that recorded Dreams for Sale consists of guitarist Raimo Rommedahl, guitarist and singer Jesper Max, bassist Robert Fallqvist, and drummer Thomas Persson, who has subsequently been replaced by Stefan Estulf. Rommedahl wrote most of the tunes, and Max added the lyrics and vocal melodies. The duo also mixed and produced the album.

The band has released videos for two tracks on the album: “Leave It All Behind” and “Tomorrow is Another Day.” The latter is a bit of an outlier on the album. It has a Southern rock feel to it, with Max adopting a slight twang, and the lyrics could have easily been written by someone from northern Florida rather than the west coast of Sweden.

There are two ballads on the album, “Mother Mary” and “I Still Hear You,” neither of which is particularly memorable. Perhaps surprisingly, the title track also is one of the weaker songs, in my opinion. But, overall, there are only a few skippers on the album for me. And there are a few tunes that I found myself immediately repeating, my favorite being “Kilimanjaro.” This is a good effort and worth a try for fans of classic, straightforward hard rock.
