So, guitarist Pat Harrington went from playing in a New York City band called Gaggle of Cocks to playing in a New York City band called Slunt. Nice move, dude. Actually, Slunt's music isn't quite as bad as its name (which allows the imagination to run wild) suggests. Sure, Slunt's debut CD busts out with sleazy, chick-fronted hard rock with flashes of punk that requires little thought or concentration on the part of the listener. But sexy, teasing and wicked-ass vocalist Abby Gennet isn't just about looks; she plays guitar, too, and often sings with a caustic sneer. Fellow female Jenny Gunns plays bass more confidently and aggressively than many males. That said, sex remains the dominant theme on Get A Load of This - from the band's name and the cover of a tattooed woman wearing a bra with vanilla ice cream dripping down her front to a song in which Gennet sings about fucking her boyfriend's father. No one needs to hear cliché lines like "Is that a Chapstick in your pocket/Or are you just happy to see me?" and "He said his name was Johnny/Well, they're all johns to me." But if you want to get your hands on Get A Load of This, you already know what you're in for, anyway.
