Spacer Chaser: Give Us Life

Celebrating their 10th anniversary German Thrash Metal band Spacer Chaser have returned with their 3rd full length album Give Us Life. With five years having passed since their last full-length, 2016’s Dead Sun Rising , Space Chaser was determined to put any doubts about their longevity to bed with this release. This desire to prove themselves again only further inspired the band to lift their game, even to the point of scrapping an album's worth of demos before writing the songs for Give Us Iife.

The album comes charging out of the gate with “remnants of technology”. A hard Thrashing attack full of fast heavy riffing and great pummeling rhythms by drummer Matthias Scheuerer, who is a real standout on this album. The style here is no mess, no fuss, just balls to the wall, Straightforward Thrash aggression. “Juggernaut” is a bit slower with some cool chugging riff work and once again the ferocity of the drumming propels the track forward with plenty of power. “Cryoshock” continues at much the same pace, however with more of a party thrash approach to it while still remaining heavy and with plenty of drum intensity. A.O.A starts with a cool grinding riff and kicks hard throughout. “The Immortals” mixes in some punk viciousness seamlessly with the Thrash. The vocals on Give Us Iife, handled by Siegfried Rudzynski, remind me a little of the singer from Bestial Invasion although less melodic than that band and more direct, with an in-your-face attitude. “Signals” continues the assault with some great catchy hard hitting riffs and a tasty lead guitar solo from guitarists Leo Schacht and Martin Hochsattel all supported by the grinding power of Sebastian Kerlikowski on the bass. “Burn Them All” furthers the cause and then “Give Us Life” kicks off with an almost death metal feel. Actually there are many moments throughout the album that have a very death metal groove to them. Again it’s mixed in seamlessly. “Antidote to Order” also adds these elements to fiery effect. The album closes out with another pummeling, speedy attack in "Dark Descent" that also has some of the other elements mentioned above.

The five year wait and the painstaking effort to produce an album worthy of their previous material have largely paid off here. The performances are strong, the songs are engaging, the Sci-Fi lyrics are cool and the production suits the material very well. The album is very enjoyable from top to bottom and fans of modern Thrash (especially with other hybrid elements included) will find a lot to like on Give Us Life.
