Give Attack of the Rising, a Southern California metal quintet, points for truth in advertising. The back cover of the band’s 2021 album, Game Changer, issues a warning to listeners:
“Today with all the hard competition in the music business, it’s almost impossible to come up with anything original. So we haven’t -- however, this album was made with the accent on loud, hard and heavy music.”
Game Changer does nothing to change the game of heavy metal. You’ve heard this kind of no-frills, old-school metal before. But if you like “loud, hard and heavy music” delivered with passion, fury and finesse, give Attack of the Rising a listen. Each musician plays his ass off, and lead vocalist Mandrake has the perfect pipes for this kind of music. Collectively, they probably put on one helluva live show, too.
