I guess I should have been forewarned when the media packet that arrived with Seasons of Tranquility started off with "CAUTION: Do not listen to this Relaxation Series of CDs while driving. Use of this product may cause drowsiness." Now that isn't what I would call a ringing endorsement for any CD, but I thought I would give it a listen anyways. Ken Kaufman is the composer and primary instrumentalist on Seasons of Tranquility. In his spare time, Kaufman is also the organist for the Buffalo Sabers.
Seasons of Tranquility is part of a series of CDs that are issued by Kathleen Swann under the grouping "Relax with Swann". Swann, a registered nurse has been using music and relaxation techniques to improve patient's attitudes and mood. So when looking for someone to create a custom CD of music to act as a background to a relaxation narrative she was putting to CD, she employed Kaufman to compose and produce the music. This session produced Seasons of Serenity. The instrumental pieces from those recordings were then separated and released as the new age Seasons of Tranquility.
If you are into New Age, Susan Ciani, or any of the water-music CDs, then this is right up your ally. Overall Kaufman does a fine job of creating an ethereal, mystic feel and the music isn't boring, just relaxing. But remember, don't play it while driving.
